Google Reader vs. BlogLines

TwitThis

I have been trying out Google Reader today instead of BlogLines. I like it!!  I am going to switch.  I have gotten to dislike BlogLines because developers put on a very false front of being there for the users.  They have forums for user support but seldom respond to requests or questions.  They try to implement very stupid and useless new features such as the blog picture wall.

I find Google Reader to be very powerful and I get through my feeds very quickly with it.  It could use some more links to Blogger such as being able to send a post I have read to Blogger so I can write about it.  The ease of moving from the reader to the original post is very intuitive and works quite well.

I made the switch a couple months ago primarily because of the "mark as read" feature as you scroll thru the headlines.
Great time-saver! Now I can add more feeds.

I use Google Reader as well -- it's just so much smoother than Bloglines. I've started sharing my non-library posts of interest with some of my coworkers.

Oh! And if you haven't yet (I think this is the correct link) set up this handy little search feature for it.

Bill, I have tried out tons of readers also and have been using Google Reader exclusively for months now. I agree with you about the lack of support at Bloglines. Also they are not updating feeds in a timely fashion. GR isn't perfect, but it's the best one I have tried.

@adri: "non-library posts" - can you clarify? Is it because everyone subscribes to the same library related feeds? Some other reason? Just curious. Thanks for the feature heads up.

I have one qualm with Google Reader...you can't (yet) have it show something as new if it has been updated. This is important for me with sites such as postsecret

I switched to GReader once I figured out what the expanded/list view did--such a handy feature! I was using Bloglines before but after having connectivity issues I went with GReader full time.

Beefs with GReader: no favicons allowed for your subscriptions (I'm a graphics guy), and no search function (unless you count the greasemonkey script but still, it should be a feature there to begin with). It is way faster than Bloglines, though, overall.

@jennimi:
-- in a way my shared items are my virtual water cooler that friends and non-lib sci colleagues can gather around... I know many of them really don't want to subscribe to the blog I do for the state lib assoc -- and since I subscribe to a lot of blogs that are non-lib sci and range in everything from geeky comics, jokes, politics, scientific articles, etc -- all topics that interest me but don't fit into the scope of the professional blog .... so I share them instead... saves the time of the reader and me. :) does that make sense?

Number two son (15) made the switch awhile ago and has been nagging me periodically to try GR ever since. Maybe it's time to stop resisting change (yet again).
